A traditional Finnish sauna, nestled within the rustic charm of an old barn, has been thoughtfully renovated to blend modern aesthetics with its historical roots. The interior architect on this project is Anu Frantti/Silvana. The use of glass and concrete creates a striking contrast against the barn’s wooden façade.
The large glass panels in the sauna provides a view of the lounge with its minimalistic lighting and interior design. The interplay of light and shadow throughout the space creates a warm, inviting glow. Light is installed only where it is needed, and they are dimmable so that the perfect ambiance is always within reach. The aim is to protect the darkness.
The LED strips installed by the Japanese-inspired washing stations together with the floor lights along the walls provide a modern lighting scheme that works in harmony with the candle lights and fireplace.
The cold concrete and the warm wood, in combination with the lighting, fosters a unique atmosphere that honors the traditional Finnish experience while embracing contemporary design elements.
